We are proud to announce the completion of another program year of the Prince George’s County 7th District Youth Leadership Program, a 3-year journey for selected 10th-12th graders who attend schools throughout the county.
The goals of the program are to develop participants’ leadership, decision making and mentoring skills so they take what they learn back to their families, communities, schools and other circles of influence as they engage in career exploration, work experience, college tours and other activities while focusing on graduating high school on-time and successfully transitioning to college and careers. Each month, the program focused on a different topic that is important to youth as they prepare for the journey ahead.
This year, we had a small but mighty cohort of 20 youth, 100% of whom successfully completed the program year. Special kudos and congratulations to Christopher Brown, Nicholas Smith and Kennedy George (Bowie High School), Caleb Williams (Gwynn Park High School) and Quinn Williams (Oxon Hill High School) on their graduation from high school and transition to college.
They each were accepted to multiple colleges and offered multiple scholarships, including a one-time scholarship from The Training Source. Christopher Brown was nominated for and selected as a 2022 Posse Scholar and he will be attending University of Rochester in the fall on a full scholarship. With a 4.1 cumulative GPA, he was accepted at 6 other prestigious colleges and offered nearly $400K in scholarships. On June 16th, we will celebrate the accomplishments of the year and wish the graduates well as they transition to the next phase of their educational endeavors.
The future is bright for the participants in the Youth Leadership Program!!
